    Minimum Requirements

    • Qualification: Undergraduate qualification NQF level 6 in Library & Information Studies/Science recognized by SAQA.
    • Experience: Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a library environment.
    • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license required (except for persons with disabilities).

    Skills and Knowledge

    • Knowledge of Batho Pele principles, Public Service Regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Familiarity with administration procedures, including norms and standards.
    • Basic numeracy skills.

    Key Performance Areas:

    • Market and Promote Library Services:
      • Develop strategies to promote library services within the community.
      • Implement marketing initiatives to increase library usage.
    • Classify and Catalogue Library Material:
      • Organize and categorize library materials according to established systems.
      • Maintain accurate records of library holdings.
    • Render Reference and Information Services:
      • Assist users with reference queries and information retrieval.
      • Provide guidance on library resources and services.
    • Develop and Establish Library:
      • Contribute to the development and growth of the library collection.
      • Organize library displays and bibliographies during departmental events.
    • Professional Library and Information Service:
      • Provide professional library services to the community.
      • Foster a culture of reading and information access.
    • Manage Day-to-Day Library Operations:
      • Oversee the daily operations of the library.
      • Ensure efficient circulation of library resources.
    • Marketing and Advocacy of Library Services:
      • Advocate for the library’s role within the community.
      • Develop and implement marketing strategies.
    • Facilitate Book Clubs:
      • Support the establishment and participation of book clubs.
      • Coordinate book club activities and engagement.
    • Library Material Management:
      • Capture newly acquired library materials into the system.
      • Maintain an online authority file and ensure accuracy.
    • Library Administrative Tasks:
      • Handle interlibrary loans and manage reference queries.
      • Monitor and report on library resource circulation.
    • Library User Support and Orientation:
      • Conduct library orientations for users.
      • Provide assistance in information retrieval and library usage.
    • Reporting and Stakeholder Liaison:
      • Monitor library user statistics and compile reports.
      • Liaise with stakeholders and district libraries on library matters.
    • Supervision and Asset Management:
      • Supervise library staff and conduct asset verification.
      • Ensure maintenance of library building, equipment, and assets.
