Role Purpose:
The Safety Officer Vacancy at Bidvest Prestige involves implementing and maintaining site-specific safety, health, and environmental (SHE) requirements in line with company policies, client site SHE requirements, and legal regulations. The Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of employees by identifying risks, conducting site inspections, and maintaining safety files for designated contracts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain health and safety files for designated contracts in accordance with company and client SHE requirements.
- Develop and implement site risk assessments, Safe Work Procedures, and Planned Task Observations to ensure compliance.
- Monitor and manage personal protective equipment (PPE), legal appointments, competencies, fire equipment, and employee medicals to maintain site safety.
- Conduct Planned Task Observations and report any deviations, incidents, or hazards to the Operations Manager and the client.
- Investigate incidents, generate reports, and follow up on corrective actions to ensure that safety standards are maintained.
- Conduct SHE site inspections and update registers, checklists, and safety-related training matrices.
- Attend client site safety meetings and represent Bidvest Prestige in discussions related to health, safety, and environmental matters.
- Establish a Prestige site safety committee, chair quarterly meetings, and document minutes, ensuring follow-up on action items.
- Communicate SHE risks with site employees, conduct safety-related informal training, and facilitate SHE toolbox talks and incident lessons learned sessions.
Qualifications and Skills Required:
- Matric (Senior Certificate) is essential.
- Valid South African Driver’s License.
- Relevant safety qualifications, such as Samtrac, Incident Investigation, Legal Liability, Fall Protection Plan Developer, HIRA (Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment), and Root Cause Analysis.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a safety officer role within a similar industry.
- Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Outlook (Intermediate level).
- Knowledge of OHS and COID Acts, industry SANS standards, and Bidvest Prestige service offerings.
- Strong incident investigation and risk assessment skills.
- Ability to conduct SHE site inspections, risk identification, and process improvement.
