Requirements

To qualify for these posts, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A three (3) year tertiary qualification majoring in Psychology or Industrial Psychology.
  • Registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Registered Counsellor (Independent Practice) or Psychometrics (Independent Practice) will be an added advantage.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Counsellors must be able to convey information clearly and effectively to clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
    • Research Abilities: Proficiency in conducting research is crucial for identifying labour market needs and employment counselling best practices. This skill helps in tailoring counselling services to meet the current demands of the job market.
    • Administrative Skills: Strong organizational and administrative skills are necessary to manage documentation, scheduling, and other support services efficiently.
    • Interpersonal Skills: The ability to build rapport and maintain positive relationships with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders is vital. Counsellors should be empathetic, patient, and approachable to effectively assist job seekers.
    • Analytical Thinking: The capacity to analyze information, identify trends, and make informed decisions is important for developing and implementing effective recruitment and selection strategies.
  • Experience:
    • Practical Experience: While not explicitly required, prior experience in a counselling or related role can be beneficial. It provides practical insights and enhances the ability to perform job duties effectively from the outset.
    • Labour Market Knowledge: Understanding the dynamics of the local labour market, including prevalent job trends, employer requirements, and the challenges faced by job seekers, is advantageous.

Duties

Selected candidates will be responsible for:

  • Rendering administrative support services to the Employment Counsellor.
  • Conducting research on labour market needs and best practices in employment counselling.
  • Providing and implementing recruitment and selection services.
  • Networking with stakeholders to verify the quality of services rendered.
  • Registering work seekers.
