Exxaro, one of South Africa’s leading coal producers, is seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join their team as a Logistics Controller at their Belfast Coal business unit, located in the Mpumalanga province.
This permanent position plays a crucial role in the management and optimization of logistics and production processes, ensuring that Exxaro’s operations run smoothly and efficiently.
The Purpose of the Role
The primary responsibility of the Logistics Controller is to oversee a logistics production shift or a section to achieve set targets. This involves focusing on both logistics and services, ensuring the smooth and effective coordination of various activities within the operation. The role demands a high level of organizational skill, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Grade 12/Standard 10 qualification (Essential/Minimum)
- Certificate in Logistics (Recommended/Desirable)
- 2 to 3 years of relevant production experience in a logistics environment (Essential/Minimum)
- Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum)
- Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum)
- Competence in SAP Position Specific Module (Essential/Minimum)
- Competence in MS Office (Relevant Package) (Essential/Minimum)
Key Responsibilities
1. Administration and Document Control:
The Logistics Controller will be responsible for organizing, coordinating, and controlling the filing archive to ensure that logistics data is readily accessible. This includes ensuring effective distribution of information, documenting changes as required, and conducting functional audits on documentation. They will also be tasked with coordinating office administration and ensuring that all data is captured accurately according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
2. Compliance, Governance, and Assurance:
In this role, adherence to standards and procedures is crucial. The Logistics Controller must comply with environmental legislation and the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA). Conducting regular inspections, managing contractor activities, and ensuring all operations meet safety standards are key aspects of this responsibility.
3. Customer, Stakeholder, and Client Relationship Management:
Building and maintaining effective relationships with both internal and external customers is essential. The Logistics Controller will liaise with entities such as Spoornet, coal trucking companies, and siding operations. They will handle customer requests and complaints, ensuring timely resolution to maintain a positive reputation for the department and company.
4. Internal Business Processes:
Managing and executing shift production plans, collaborating in business improvement teams, and overseeing the efficient operation of weighbridges and truck operations are core functions. The Logistics Controller will coordinate production-related maintenance contractors, monitor truck behavior on national roads, and ensure safe coal on-loading and off-loading processes. Additionally, they will manage coal stock levels, provide logistics reports, and ensure smooth coordination across different departments in the Integrated Operations Hub.
5. Safe and Healthy Work Environment:
The safety of all involved in the operation is paramount. The Logistics Controller is expected to conduct regular safety inspections, promote a safe working culture, and set a personal example when it comes to safety and health issues. Striving for zero lost-time injuries and maintaining safety, quality, and environmental integrity in operations will be central to their day-to-day tasks.
