What is the Teach The Nation Leadership Development Scholarship?
Teach The Nation (TTN) is an organization committed to transforming South Africa’s education system by empowering teachers to become leaders in their communities. As part of the Teach For All global network, TTN operates in over 60 countries, working to ensure that every child, regardless of socio-economic background, receives a quality education.
The Teach The Nation Leadership Development Scholarship is a two-year leadership development program aimed at enhancing the professional and leadership skills of young, dynamic educators working in under-resourced schools.
What Does the Fellowship Program Include?
A Structured Learning & Development Plan
The TTN Fellowship is a well-rounded program designed to equip educators with the necessary skills and experience to lead inside and outside the classroom. Here’s what you can expect:
- Monthly Virtual Coaching: Two 45-minute coaching sessions per month, scheduled at your convenience
- Peer Learning Community Meetings: One professional development session per school term (on a Saturday)
- Support & Classroom Observations: Expert feedback and mentorship to improve teaching effectiveness
- Community Impact Projects: Implement leadership projects to create meaningful change in schools
- Exclusive Training: Access to specialized courses in STEM, IT, Business, and Accounting
- Participation in the Annual Summer Institute: A week-long intensive training held during school holidays (dates TBA)
- No Exams – Just Practical Learning: The program focuses on real-world skills and application, rather than traditional examinations
Upon successful completion of the program, fellows will transition into the TTN Alumni Network, gaining lifelong access to resources, professional connections, and career opportunities.
Requirements
This opportunity is open to passionate, driven educators who meet the following criteria:
- You are a permanently employed educator in an under-resourced school (Foundation Phase, Grades 1-3)
- You are between the ages of 22 – 35 years
- You have 0 to 5 years of teaching experience
- You hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education
- You specialize in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths), IT Skills, Coding, Robotics, Business, or Accounting
- You teach in a rural, township, urban primary school, or special needs school
- You are a South African citizen and SACE registered (or in the process of registering)
- You have training in Funda Wande, Green Shoots, or Bala Wande
- You have a passion for improving school culture, leadership, and community development
