- Customer Service: The General Worker must proactively advise customers on store specials, promotions, and pricing. Furthermore, it is important that they assist with customer queries or requests at the store level and highlight any stock-related issues to the Outlet Controller. The worker should also be prepared to advise customers about product details, ensuring that they have an excellent shopping experience.
- Cleanliness: Maintaining a clean and tidy store environment is vital to this role. The General Worker will ensure that all store areas, including stock shelves, remain clean and presentable at all times.
Cashier Duties
In addition to the merchandising responsibilities, the General Worker will also be required to perform cashier duties. These include:
- Sales Transactions: The General Worker will manage sales transactions efficiently. This includes operating the Point of Sale (POS) system to capture daily totals and completing customer transactions with accuracy.
- Cash Reconciliation: Ensuring that the cash is reconciled daily is another critical task. The General Worker will be responsible for conducting cash reconciliations between the cash banked and the POS system, highlighting any discrepancies.
- Counterfeit Detection: As part of the cashier duties, the worker will also use a Bank Note Scanning Machine to detect counterfeit banknotes, ensuring that the business remains secure from fraud.
Stock Take and Management
An important task for any general worker is to assist with stock taking, which occurs monthly. The General Worker will be required to help with the stock count and ensure accurate reporting. If any discrepancies are found during the count, it is their responsibility to report them to the Outlet Controller so that issues can be addressed swiftly.
Housekeeping and Maintenance
Ensuring that the premises remain clean, tidy, and well-maintained is also part of the General Worker’s duties. This includes monitoring the temperature levels of freezers and advising the Outlet Controller of any potential issues. The worker will be an ambassador for the company’s energy-saving initiatives, playing a role in reducing costs and improving operational efficiency.
Skills and Qualifications
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications and experience:
- Grade 12: A minimum requirement for this position is a Grade 12 qualification.
- Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in a general worker role, ideally within a staff shop or similar retail environment. Additionally, at least two years of cashier experience is required, ideally within a retail setting.
