Key Responsibilities
The General Assistant in the Yard Department will be expected to perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Loading vehicles and trucks – Ensuring that customers’ vehicles, delivery trucks, and transfer trucks are loaded promptly and accurately to prevent delays and stock discrepancies.
- Stock organization – Stacking and counting stock correctly, ensuring that all products are stored neatly to facilitate easy access and retrieval.
- Assisting with stock transfers – Pulling stock from designated areas and preparing it for inter-store transfers when needed.
- Stock monitoring and reporting – Identifying and reporting any stock shortages or breakages to maintain accurate inventory records.
- General housekeeping – Keeping the yard area clean and tidy by regularly sweeping and organizing stock areas to promote safety and efficiency.
- Customer assistance – Offering friendly and knowledgeable customer service, guiding customers on product selections, and ensuring their needs are met with professionalism and efficiency.
- Bagging materials – Assisting with the bagging of stone and sand to facilitate easy customer purchases.
- Participating in stocktakes – Conducting perpetual stock counts to ensure accurate inventory records.
- Following instructions from supervisors – Performing any additional tasks assigned by a superior to support overall yard operations.
Required Qualifications and Skills
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Education:
- A Matric certificate (Grade 12) or
- Completion of at least three Intercept courses (totaling 120 credits).
- Experience:
- At least one year of experience in a similar role within a retail or yard environment.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong customer service skills with a friendly and helpful attitude.
- Ability to numerically count stock with accuracy.
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
- Self-discipline and motivation to perform duties efficiently.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong verbal communication skills to interact with customers and colleagues.
- Good physical fitness and stamina to handle stock movement and yard activities.
