    First Officer Job Description

    As a First Officer at Fly Safair, your role will include ensuring the safety of the flight, monitoring the flight path, and performing critical checks and procedures before, during, and after each flight. You’ll also be expected to navigate and operate the aircraft, assist with administrative tasks, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including passengers.

    Key Responsibilities

    In the event of the Captain’s incapacitation, the First Officer will assume command of the flight, making the ability to perform under pressure a key requirement. Throughout each flight, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations, company policies, and safety protocols.

    Other duties include:

    • Supporting the Captain in upholding crew discipline and professional standards.
    • Carrying out checks as per the Operations Manual.
    • Ensuring accurate completion of legal documentation.
    • Assisting in the efficient and safe operation of flights, including abnormal and emergency situations.

    Pre-Flight, In-Flight, and Post-Flight Duties

    As part of your role, you’ll collaborate with the Captain to review essential documents, including briefing sheets, fuel selection, and alternate routes. During the flight, you will monitor instruments and execute checklists to ensure the aircraft is operating safely and according to protocol. After landing, you will finalize post-flight procedures, including submitting required reports.

    Job Requirements

    To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:

    • Grade 12 (or equivalent).
    • SACAA Commercial License (Essential).
    • SACAA ATPL (Preferred).
    • Class 1 SACAA Medical (Essential).
    • Type Rated on Boeing (Advantageous).
    • Minimum of 1500 flight hours, including 500 hours of multi-turbine time (Essential).
    • Multi-crew experience (Essential).
    • No existing medical conditions.
    • A valid RSA Passport and Driver’s License.
    • Must be willing to work irregular hours.
