The Western Cape Government’s Mobility Department is seeking a highly qualified and dedicated individual to join their team as a Deputy Director of Fleet Repair and Maintenance. This role is critical in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of government transport services, contributing significantly to the management of state resources.

Minimum Requirements

  • Required Degree: An appropriate 3-year National Diploma or B-Degree (or a higher qualification).
  • Management Experience: A minimum of 3 years at the middle management level specifically in fleet management.
  • Driving License: Must possess a valid code B (or higher) driving license.
  • Experience in budget and financial management, human resource management, supply chain management, client services, and mechanical/technical/engineering or tender background.

Competencies and Skills

  • Knowledge: Familiarity with the Public Finance Management Act, National Treasury Regulations, Provincial Treasury Instructions, and the Handbook for Government Motor Transport.
  • Skills: Strong communication, planning and organizing, problem solving and decision making, research, presentation, and computer literacy (MS Office package).

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily activities of the Mobility Transport Repair and Maintenance (MT RM) client care centre.
  • Manage the GMT Repairs and Maintenance Coordination (RMC) section.
  • Supervise the GMT Quality Assurance (QA) section.
  • Control the GMT Related Supplier Management section and ensure timely payment of RiM invoices.
  • Handle policy and contract management along with providing management support services.
  • Oversee human capital management within the department.
