The agency is seeking to appoint two Occupational Health Nurses (Locum) on a fixed-term contract to support its Risk Management Department in the Metrorail Gauteng Region.

    Job Overview and Responsibilities

    The Occupational Health Nurse will be responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and management of the Occupational Health Program within PRASA. This involves ensuring adherence to Occupational Hygiene principles and implementing strategies aimed at minimizing occupational health risks.

    The incumbent will play a crucial role in promoting workplace health and safety, ensuring that employees remain fit and healthy while reducing the impact of occupational health hazards.

    Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:

    • Conducting health risk analyses to identify potential hazards in the workplace.
    • Responding to medical emergencies and providing first-line medical intervention.
    • Ensuring compliance with occupational health legislation to maintain a safe and legally compliant work environment.
    • Managing accurate documentation and record-keeping to uphold confidentiality and accessibility.
    • Enforcing Metrorail and PRASA policies and procedures.
    • Monitoring and analyzing occupational health exposure trends, making recommendations to minimize risks.
    • Participating in internal and external audits to ensure best practices in occupational health.
    • Overseeing medical surveillance programs, including pre-employment, periodic, exit, and post-incident medical examinations.
    • Coordinating health promotion activities, such as Health Awareness Days and Injury on Duty (IOD) management.
    • Providing HIV/AIDS counselling, chronic illness management, and referrals to hospitals or clinics.

    Minimum Requirements

    To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications and experience criteria:

    • B Tech in Occupational Health.
    • Diploma in General Nursing, Psychiatry, Community Nursing, or Midwifery.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Certificate in Primary Health Care and Family Planning (advantageous).
    • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) with an additional qualification in occupational health.
    • Indemnity and SASOHN (South African Society of Occupational Health Nursing Practitioners) registration.
    • Certificate in Audiometry and Spirometry (a must).
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in occupational health nursing.

    Additional Advantages

    Candidates with the following additional qualifications will have a competitive edge:

    • Dispensing license.
    • Certificate in HIV/AIDS counselling and testing.
