Laboratory Assistant Job Overview

Key Responsibilities
As a Laboratory Assistant at AfriSam, you will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Collecting Samples:
- You will collect accurate samples in line with the sample schedules assigned to various materials to ensure that quality checks are conducted as required.
- Analyzing Samples:
- You will be responsible for analyzing the collected samples and reporting results in the prescribed format. This will help internal teams take the necessary remedial actions to ensure that the materials meet the required quality standards.
- Operating Laboratory Equipment:
- You will operate various laboratory instruments and equipment. In addition, you will perform first-line maintenance and ensure the cleanliness and organization of the laboratory.
- Compliance with Company Policies:
- Ensuring that all work is carried out in line with AfriSam’s policies, procedures, and work instructions will be a key part of your role.
- Safety and Environmental Standards:
- You will maintain high standards in terms of safety, health, and environmental requirements. Compliance with these standards is essential for the well-being of employees and the surrounding community.
- Routine Testing and Analysis:
- Conducting physical and routine tests in the laboratory to ensure that the materials meet quality specifications.
- Adhering to Good Laboratory Practices:
- You will be required to understand and follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) to ensure that testing is done in a reliable, accurate, and safe manner.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, candidates should meet the following qualifications and experience requirements:
- Minimum Educational Requirement:
- A Grade 12 certificate is required.
- Candidates with a background in Mathematics and/or Physical Science would have an added advantage.
- Additional Qualifications:
- A Chemistry qualification would be beneficial, especially for those seeking to advance their career in the laboratory field.
- Relevant Experience:
- Two years of laboratory experience in the cement or equivalent industry will be advantageous.
- Experience working with XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) and XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) equipment is also an advantage.
- Laboratory Equipment Knowledge:
- A basic understanding of laboratory equipment and their functions will be important for success in this role.
- Medical Fitness:
- Applicants must be declared medically fit after a medical examination.
