Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Educational Qualification: Grade 12 / Matric
- Experience: A minimum of 6 months’ experience in cashier or till operations
- Skills:
- Computer literate (MS Office)
- Sound numerical and mathematical skills
- Strong command of the English language (both written and oral)
- Basic customer service knowledge
- Work Availability: Willing and able to work retail hours
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures, ensuring a high standard of service at all times
- Build and maintain professional relationships with customers
- Handle customer complaints and compliments appropriately, and report them to the Frontline Supervisor or store management
- Be aware of current sales and promotions
- Ensure safety and security for both colleagues and customers
- Follow Dis-Chem’s 5-star communication principles
- Responsible for cash flow and ensure correct processing of all transactions
- Process payments using various methods, including cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons, and loyalty cards (including partner loyalty programs like Discovery Health Care, Medihelp, Momentum Multiply, etc.)
- Ensure that all transactions are accurately recorded, voids and price changes are approved by the supervisor, and all goods are scanned and paid for
- Securely handle cash according to Dis-Chem’s SOPs and ensure the use of your personal code and password remains safe and private
- Report suspicious behavior to management promptly
- Adhere to all Dis-Chem security and operational policies and procedures

- In-depth knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers
- Strong accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Strong emotional intelligence and social awareness
- High level of accountability and integrity

- Ability to analyse basic reports and take appropriate action
- Trustworthy and honest
- Presentable appearance
Advantageous Skills:
- Fluency in a third language will be beneficial
