    List of CSIR Internship Opportunities

    1.CSIR Internship: Textile Processing and Characterisation

    CSIR is offering two internship positions in the Textile Testing and Characterisation Facility under the Advanced Polymer Composites Research Group. These internships will provide graduates with real-world exposure to textile testing, industrial sample characterisation, and laboratory procedures.

    • Location: Scientia Pretoria On-site
    • Closing Date: 13 February 2025

    Key Responsibilities

    As a Textile Processing and Characterisation Intern your role will include:

    • Conducting textile testing and verification procedures
    • Complying with ISO 17025 2017 Global Laboratory Quality Management System
    • Ensuring timely turnaround TAT for testing procedures
    • Managing and storing tested samples as per client requirements
    • Applying quality assurance standards SANS ASTM AATCC EU WW and others
    • Ensuring laboratory compliance with corporate policies

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • A National Diploma in Textile Technology Quality or a related field
    • Practical experience in a laboratory setting will be an advantage
    • A hands-on approach in operating laboratory equipment and pilot facility
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Self-motivated and able to work within a team environment
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Willingness to learn and work under pressure
    • Attention to detail and accuracy
    • International qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority SAQA

    2. CSIR Internship: Mining Engineering

    CSIR is also offering three internship positions in the Mandela Mining Precinct. These internships aim to equip graduates with research and development skills through work on competitive technologies and innovative products under the guidance of researchers and engineers.

    • Location: Emmarentia Johannesburg On-site
    • Duration: Eighteen-month contract
    • Closing Date: 14 February 2025

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conducting literature reviews on previous research locally and internationally
    • Undertaking time and motion studies on mining technologies at various mine sites
    • Engaging with Original Equipment Manufacturers on mining technologies
    • Writing reports on processes and research findings
    • Presenting research results when required
    • Performing general administrative tasks related to the project

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • A Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mining
    • A postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage
    • Exposure to metalliferous and mechanised mining environments will be beneficial
    • Self-motivated with a team-oriented mindset
    • Strong analytical numerical and problem-solving skills
    • Administrative skills including minute-taking filing and research
    • Ability to work under pressure
    • Valid drivers licence
    • No criminal record
    • International qualifications must be evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority SAQA
    • Shortlisted candidates may be required to undergo a prescribed medical assessment
