University of Free State Waiter Positions Overview

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Table Preparation: Prepare tables for service according to restaurant standards.

Customer Service:

  • Greet and escort customers to their tables.
  • Present the menu and provide detailed information about dishes, ingredients, and allergens.
  • Inform customers about daily specials and offer menu recommendations.
  • Take accurate food and drink orders from customers.

Order Management:

  • Communicate order details to the Kitchen Staff promptly.
  • Serve food and drinks to customers.
  • Up-sell additional products when appropriate.

Billing and Service: Deliver checks and collect bill payments from customers.

Table Maintenance:

  • Clear and clean tables after customers leave.
  • Restock items in the front of house as needed.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Provide excellent customer service to ensure a positive dining experience.
  • Health and Safety: Follow health code standards and guidelines for food handling.
  • Barista Duties: Prepare and serve a variety of coffees to a high standard.
  • Event Support: Assist with events and functions, including setting up and rearranging tables.
  • Flexibility: Available to work weekends and after hours as required.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform any other duties assigned by Housing and Residence Affairs.

Requirements:

  • Inherent Requirements: Completion of Grade 12 or National Vocational Certificate on NQF Level 4.

Recommendations:

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience working as a waiter.
  • Familiarity with Point-of-Sale (POS) Systems.
  • Experience in barista duties, including the preparation and service of various coffees to a high standard.
