    Key Responsibilities

    The selected intern will take part in a range of activities, which include:

    • Clinical Services: The intern will be actively involved in providing clinical services within the Production Animal Clinic. This will be done under the guidance and mentorship of experienced faculty specialists at OVAH.
    • After-Hours Work and Community Engagement: The intern will also take part in after-hours work, including weekends, and may be required to engage in community clinical activities. This will allow for exposure to community, trauma, and emergency medicine, broadening the intern’s skills.
    • Clinical Training and Supervision: The intern will assist in the training of undergraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students. This will include supervising clinical procedures as part of providing clinical services.
    • Research Activities: The internship offers the opportunity to be introduced to research work related to the MMedVet program, providing a platform for future academic development.
    • Mentorship Program: Interns will participate in a mentorship program focused on personal and professional growth, preparing them for specialization within the field of veterinary medicine.

    Minimum Requirements

    To qualify for the internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:

    • A completed BVSc-degree, BVMCh, or an equivalent professional veterinary qualification.
    • Registration as a veterinarian with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC).
    • Acknowledged clinical expertise in veterinary practice.
    • Adequate knowledge of the subject matter related to the position.

    • Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and language skills are essential for effective collaboration with clients and team members.
    • Technical Proficiency: Good computer skills, including familiarity with MS Office and internet usage, are necessary.
