Tech Officer Job Description
The Tech Officer will oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of voice and non-voice Telkom systems, ensuring seamless service delivery. This role involves working on-site, liaising with customers, and handling tasks like equipment recovery, functionality testing, and technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintaining Resources
- Inspect and service tools, vehicles, and test gear.
- Ensure all equipment is in top condition to support operational efficiency.
2. Installing and Recovering Equipment
- Analyze installation or recovery requests.
- Set up systems, cabling, and single lines.
- Conduct and document functionality tests for various products, including LAN and optic fiber systems.
3. Repairing and Maintaining Systems
- Diagnose and address system faults.
- Perform functionality tests and update relevant records.
- Work on voice and non-voice products, cabling, and accessories.
4. Remote Programming
- Program systems and equipment remotely to meet client requirements.
- Handle all voice and non-voice programmable products.
5. Processing Documentation
- Accurately complete quality, safety, and technical forms.
- Update administrative and technical records.
6. Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain professional relationships with customers.
- Address complaints, queries, and provide technical support.
7. Indoor Reticulation Installation
- Plan and prepare cabling routes.
- Install and test points/jacks and perform conformance testing.
8. Managing Service Providers
- Coordinate with service providers.
- Perform quality checks and enable EE service providers.
- Conduct site visits to ensure service delivery standards.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: NQF 4 (Grade 12) with relevant modular training.
- Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
- Candidates with Telkom learnerships, internships, or bursary experience need only 12 months of experience.
- Certifications: Relevant technical certifications are advantageous.
Special Requirements
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work after hours and overtime.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights.
- Must have color vision and the ability to work under pressure.
