Purpose of the Job
The primary responsibility of the Switchboard Operator is to manage incoming and outgoing calls in a professional and friendly manner. Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Answer incoming calls and direct outgoing calls in a professional and pleasant manner.
- Communicate effectively with doctors, executives, patients, and colleagues.
- Handle complaints and direct them to the appropriate channels.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to the hospital’s policies on information security.
- Keep all relevant information updated, including contingency plans and hospital telephone lists.
- Provide assistance during overtime shifts when required.
- Support the reception team during patient admissions.
- Perform various administrative tasks as assigned by the manager or reception supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience Required
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the role:
- A Grade 12 certificate or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
- A minimum of two years of experience in a hospital environment.
- Knowledge of Tri-Four or similar switchboard systems will be an added advantage.

- Knowledge of Health and Safety Rules and emergency procedures.
