In the heart of Pretoria, a quiet revolution is taking place—one not driven by protests or parades, but by data. And leading this transformation is Statistics South Africa (Stats SA), the national statistical service responsible for producing timely, accurate, and official statistics to aid in decision-making at all levels of society.

Now, with their 2025–2027 internship programme, Stats SA is opening its doors to South African graduates hungry to gain experience, contribute to national development, and be part of something meaningful.

    A Programme Rooted in Excellence

Stats SA’s mission extends beyond just crunching numbers. It’s about understanding South Africa’s complex socio-economic landscape. To fulfill this mission, the organisation draws on five key competencies: scientific leadership, technological strength, logistical efficiency, political neutrality, and top-tier administration.

Their internship programme isn’t just a formality—it’s a carefully crafted journey for unemployed graduates who want to make a tangible impact. Spanning 24 months, the internship aims to equip candidates with practical skills and workplace experience in various fields aligned with the core mandate of Stats SA.

By opening the door to fresh talent, Stats SA plays a role in empowering the next generation of data analysts, statisticians, journalists, and project managers who will shape public policy and economic strategies.

This programme is particularly important for those in rural areas and townships who often feel excluded from opportunities. By offering placements based on merit and dedication, and not connections, Stats SA ensures inclusivity, diversity, and equal representation.

What’s in it for South Africa?

Internships at this scale are an investment in the country’s future.
