    About SACPLAN

    The South African Council for Planners (SACPLAN) is the statutory body responsible for regulating the planning profession under the Planning Profession Act, 36 of 2002. SACPLAN is dedicated to advancing the field of planning by providing financial support through its bursary programme.

    Bursary Objective

    The SACPLAN Bursary Programme is designed to:

    • Support students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate planning qualifications at accredited institutions.
    • Enhance the development of the planning profession by aiding in student learning and timely completion of studies.
    • Increase the professional capacity within the planning field in South Africa.
    • Foster the retention and growth of skilled professionals in the planning sector.

    Eligibility Criteria

    To qualify for the bursary, applicants must:

    • Be South African citizens.
    • Provide proof of registration or acceptance into an accredited planning programme.

    Application Deadline

    • The final date to submit completed application forms is 16 August 2024.

    Bursary Details

    • Bursary Amount:
      • Determined by SACPLAN based on merit and needs in applications.
      • Covers significant portions of tuition fees.
    • Additional Costs Coverage:
      • Accommodation: On-campus or off-campus housing costs.
      • Books and Study Materials: Textbooks, software, and other necessary resources.
      • Travel Expenses: Commuting and academic-related travel costs.
      • Living Allowance: Daily living expenses stipend.
    • Renewal and Academic Progress:
      • Annual Renewal: Based on satisfactory academic progress; submit transcripts and progress reports annually.
      • Performance Monitoring: Regular review of academic performance to ensure timely completion.
      • Mentorship and Support: Access to experienced professionals for guidance.

    Required Documents

    Applicants must submit the following:

    • Certified copy of the senior certificate (Grade 12).
    • Proof of acceptance or registration from an accredited planning programme.
    • Certified copy of the latest academic transcript or record.
    • Certified copy of a valid South African ID.
    • Personal/motivational statement (1-2 pages).
    • Completed SACPLAN Bursary application form.
    • Two letters of recommendation.
    • Verification or copy of planning programme costs for one academic year.
    • Resume of work experience and background (if applicable).
    • Statement/estimate of total tuition fees for the year.
    • Statement/estimate of any additional costs (e.g., accommodation) for the academic year with supporting documents.
