About the Position
The Department is offering a permanent Social Worker position (Grade 1 to 4) at Valkenberg Hospital under the Chief Directorate: Metro Health Services. This is an excellent chance to be part of a multidisciplinary team in a specialist acute mental health care setting.

- Grade 1: R308,247 – R362,439 per annum
- Grade 2: R376,416 – R436,014 per annum
- Grade 3: R452,667 – R532,113 per annum
- Grade 4: R554,919 – R687,918 per annum
These salaries include service benefits such as a 13th cheque, employer pension fund contribution, and housing and medical aid allowances.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Registration
- A recognized Social Work qualification that allows for registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professionals (SACSSP).
- Registration with the SACSSP and proof of current registration are essential.
- New applicants who do not yet have registration may still apply, provided they submit proof of application and payment for registration before the interview date.
Experience Levels
- Grade 1: No experience required (entry-level after registration).
- Grade 2: Minimum of 10 years of social work experience after SACSSP registration.
- Grade 3: Minimum of 20 years of social work experience after SACSSP registration.
- Grade 4: Minimum of 30 years of social work experience after SACSSP registration.
Key Competencies & Skills
- Ability to render clinical social work services in a mental health care setting.
- Expertise in psycho-social assessment, family and individual counseling.
- Knowledge of statutory social work processes.
- Experience working with vulnerable clients.
- Computer literacy.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
Duties & Responsibilities
As a social worker in this role, you will:
- Provide clinical social work services to vulnerable individuals, families, and communities.
- Conduct psycho-social assessments and counseling sessions.
- Work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Coordinate with relevant external role players for appropriate referrals.
- Develop and implement care and safety plans.
- Ensure continued professional development by staying updated with industry developments.
- Maintain accountability and compliance with the Social Work Administrative process.
