Social Media Officer Position Overview

Requirements
- Educational Qualification: A 3-year Diploma/Degree recorded on the National Learner Record database on NQF level 6 or higher in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Media Practice, or an equivalent qualification relevant to the post’s core functions.
- Experience: At least two years of experience in Communication or Media production services, with one year at a supervisory level.
Generic Requirements
- Competency: Applicants must display competency in the post-specific core functions.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in at least two official languages, including English.
- Educational Qualification: Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate Vocational recorded on the National Learner Record Database on NQF level 4.
- Driver’s License: Must possess a valid light motor vehicle driver’s license.
- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
- Clean Record: No previous criminal or departmental convictions or pending cases.
- Appearance: No visible tattoos when wearing any uniform of the Service.
- Screening: Applicants will undergo security screening and fingerprint verification.
- Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Additional Advantage: Relevant courses in the field will be beneficial.
- Work Hours: Ability to work under pressure and extended hours.
Core Functions
- Supervise Media Desk Functions: Oversee the collection, monitoring, and analysis of social media data.
- Analyze Social Media Trends: Collect and monitor social media trends and internet activities to gather proactive and reactive intelligence.
- Enhance Public Safety: Provide intelligence on public safety, stability issues, and organized crime.
- Utilize Open Source Intelligence (OSINT): Enhance analysis products using OSINT techniques.
- Support SAPS Stakeholders: Provide crucial information to SAPS stakeholders for operational purposes.
- Resource Management: Manage and control human, financial, physical, and information resources of the centre.
