    Senior Driller Job Description

    As a Senior Driller, you will be responsible for supervising drillers and coordinating all drilling activities to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. You will monitor weather conditions, overburden volumes, and drill times to optimize production. Your role will involve adjusting drilling parameters based on seabed conditions, including managing bit pressures, rotation speed, compressed air, and compensation cushion flow.

    Key Responsibilities

    1. Financial Effectiveness:
      • Participate in cost-saving initiatives.
      • Adhere to financial procedures.
    2. Production Drilling:
      • Supervise drill floor personnel and activities.
      • Train drillers and trainee drillers to achieve efficient and effective drilling techniques.
      • Optimize the drilling process to ensure maximum production.
    3. Maintenance:
      • Plan maintenance requirements.
      • Manage stock levels and spares for the drill floor.
      • Identify areas for improvement and implement systems development.
      • Provide training to drillers and trainee drillers on maintenance systems.
    4. Team Leadership:
      • Develop drillers and trainee drillers to senior driller capabilities using a skills matrix.
      • Offer on-the-job training and mentorship to trainee drillers.
    5. Innovation:
      • Stay updated on new developments in marine mining technology.
      • Introduce changes to work processes where appropriate.
    6. People Management:
      • Manage and control subordinates for optimal utilization.
    7. Safety, Health, Security, and Environmental Effectiveness:
      • Promote and adhere to company safety, security, and environmental policies and objectives.
    8. Effective Stakeholder Management:
      • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve company objectives.
      • Build and maintain relationships across the De Beers Pipeline by sharing business information and knowledge.

    To qualify for this position, you need the following:

    • Educational Requirements:
      • Grade 12 or N3 with Maths and Science.
      • In-house driller training.
      • Artisan certificate.
    • Experience:
      • Minimum of 5 years of rotary drilling experience in an offshore mining environment.
      • Supervisory experience is preferred.
