Through the SANRAL bursary program, they offer aspiring students the chance to access top-tier education and unlock their fullest potential in the realm of civil engineering.
SANRAL Bursary Program Coverage
Based on the Means Test outcome, SANRAL may provide either a full or partial bursary:
Full Bursary includes coverage for
- Registration and tuition fees
- Accommodation expenses
- Study materials and equipment
- Food allowances
Partial Bursary covers
- Registration and tuition fees
- Accommodation costs
- Access to wellness programs
- In our future plans, we aim to introduce additional support services, including tutoring programs and assistance with obtaining learner’s and driver’s licenses.
SANRAL Bursary Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a bursary, applicants must:
- Hold South African citizenship and be under the age of 35.
- Fulfill the academic prerequisites for their selected course.
- Attain a specified academic performance:
- Tertiary institution students: Maintain a 60% overall average.
- Matriculants: Attain a 70% overall average.
- Enroll at an accredited South African tertiary institution (privately-owned universities are ineligible).
- Plan to pursue full-time studies (part-time or distance learning programs are not accepted).
- Complete the application form thoroughly and include all required supporting documentation.
Limited bursary awards are available for both postgraduate and undergraduate levels in the following fields:
- Human Resource
- Civil Engineering
- Finance
- Electronic Engineering
- Supply Chain & Procurement
SANRAL Bursary Program Requirements:
- Bursaries are offered for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies.
- Selection of recipients is in line with SANRAL’s Employment Equity (EE) Transformation Policy objectives.
- Evaluation of applicants’ financial circumstances will be conducted.
- Candidates currently benefiting from other bursaries will not be considered.
- Students with disabilities are urged to apply.
- Bursary recipients will have the opportunity to pursue on-the-job training opportunities.

Letter of Motivation:
- provide a brief overview of yourself and articulate why you are seeking a SANRAL bursary (1 page).
Certified Copies of Documents
- For high school applicants: Certified copies of Term 1 and 2 results.
- For tertiary level applicants: Certified copy of full academic record from current tertiary institution.
- Proof of tertiary registration.
- Your South African ID document or birth certificate.
- ID documents of your parents/legal guardian.
Proof of Residence
- A certified copy of a water and electricity bill from the local council in the name of your parents/legal guardian.
Important Information
- Proof of income should not be older than 3 months from the submission date.
- All copies must be certified as true copies within 3 months of submission.
- If supported by a guardian, include the death certificate of parent(s) or a letter from social services.
- Include proof of registration of sibling(s) studying at a tertiary institution.
- If your family is fostering a child, please include a court decree.
- Marriage certificate of applicant’s parents, if married, and marriage certificate of the applicant.
- Only fully completed application forms will be accepted.
