Responsibilities of the Safety & Health Officer
The Safety & Health Officer role is designed to ensure that the company complies with all relevant safety regulations and that safety standards are maintained across various operations. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supporting the Manager of Safety and Health:
As a key player in safety and health management, you will collaborate with the Manager of Safety and Health to implement and enforce safety policies and procedures at Exxaro’s Corporate Centre and in corporate-led projects. - Ensuring Compliance with Safety Regulations:
You will be responsible for ensuring that all safety and health regulations are followed strictly to reduce the risk of accidents and incidents caused by unsafe practices or lack of awareness among employees. - Promoting Workplace Safety:
As the Safety & Health Officer, you will actively promote a culture of safety within the organization. This includes identifying potential hazards, suggesting improvements to safety protocols, and conducting regular safety audits. - Conducting Safety Training:
You will assist in organizing and providing safety training for employees to ensure that everyone is aware of the safety protocols and procedures. This helps to minimize the occurrence of unsafe practices due to lack of knowledge. - Reporting and Incident Management:
In the case of incidents or accidents, you will play a role in reporting, investigating, and analyzing the causes to ensure that corrective actions are implemented to prevent future occurrences.
Minimum Requirements
To apply for this role, candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience criteria:
Qualifications:
- National Diploma in Safety Management (Essential/Minimum)
- Certificate in First Line Management (Essential/Minimum)
- Certificate in Occupational Health (Recommended/Desirable)
- B Tech in a Relevant Field (Recommended/Desirable)
Experience:
- A minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience in a heavy industry, mining, or production environment is required. This experience is essential to ensure that you have the necessary skills and understanding to effectively implement and monitor safety protocols in such industries.
Additional Requirements:
- Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum): A psychometric assessment will be conducted by Exxaro to assess your suitability for the role.
- Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum): You will need to pass a medical fitness assessment to ensure you are fit for the physical demands of the job.
