PR and Events Co-ordinator Position Overview
The PR and Events Co-ordinator will report directly to the Head: Student Experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving media relations, maintaining brand identity, coordinating campus events, managing service providers, and ensuring that students have a vibrant and engaging campus life.
With a strong focus on public relations and event management, this role will also support other departments across the campus and play a crucial role in maintaining Varsity College’s strong brand presence.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Media Relations
- Building and nurturing strong relationships with local and regional media outlets.
- Writing and distributing monthly press releases and caption stories.
- Networking with media at campus events and handling PR during any crisis situations.
- Working closely with the National Office during times of high media attention.
Brand Identity
- Understanding and enforcing Varsity College’s brand identity across all campus materials.
- Ensuring that every poster, flyer, and communication promotes a positive brand image.
Management of PR-Related Service Providers
- Selecting and managing service providers such as photographers, printers, and sound technicians.
- Briefing photographers and coordinating event coverage.
- Supplying quality photographs to national offices and media channels.
General Administration
- Creating annual and monthly event calendars.
- Compiling post-event reports and monthly PR reports.
- Managing the campus PR budget effectively.
Events Management
- Planning and executing a range of social events, both on and off campus.
- Reporting on events accurately and within deadlines.
- Advertising internal events and securing sponsorships and prizes for events.
Team Support
- Assisting the Student Experience team and Academic Operations Centres with events.
- Providing PR support to other departments when needed.
Social Committee Management
- Recruiting and managing a vibrant student social committee to enhance the campus experience.
Required Competencies
- Excellent planning and organizational skills.
- Strong computer literacy.

- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
- Confidence, an outgoing personality, and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Superior presentation abilities.
- Fluent English (both spoken and written).
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Qualifications:
- A BA Degree in Corporate Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a similar field.
Experience:
- At least 3 years in PR, Events Management, Social Media Management, or Media Writing.
- Experience in managing teams or delegating tasks is a definite advantage.
Special Requirements
- A valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are essential for this role.
Working Hours and Salary
- Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:00.
