    Planning Assistant Job Description

    The Planning Assistant will play a crucial role in the Bulk Water Services Operations Portfolio, reporting directly to the Maintenance Systems Administrator. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the smooth handling of daily work order requests through the Maximo system, supporting the efficient operation of Rand Water’s maintenance departments. This is a permanent position based at the Vereeniging Site in Gauteng.

    Key Responsibilities

    As a Planning Assistant, your day-to-day duties will include the following essential tasks:

    • Managing Work Orders: You will handle the processing, creation, and issuing of job cards within the Maximo system. This system is used to manage maintenance activities, ensuring that all work is logged and scheduled efficiently.
    • Relief Maintenance Planner: At times, you may be asked to step in as the Maintenance Planner, ensuring there is continuity in maintenance scheduling and planning.
    • Administrative Support: This involves managing departmental time sheets, logging them accurately, and ensuring that all documentation is filed correctly. You will also assist with general administrative tasks, including typing, filing, and minute taking during meetings.
    • Coordination with Maintenance System Configurator: You will be responsible for processing work requests and modifications, making sure they are passed on to the Maintenance System Configurator for further action.

    Minimum Requirements

    To be considered for the Planning Assistant position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • Education: A Grade 12 certificate (or equivalent).
    • Experience: A minimum of two years’ experience in maintenance planning systems and procedures.
    • Technical Skills: Basic knowledge of administration functions and experience with maintenance management systems such as Maximo.
    • Computer Literacy: Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.
    • Driver’s License: A valid Code EB driver’s license and the ability to pass the Rand Water K53 driver’s evaluation.
