    Job Overview

    The Pharmacy Assistant will support the Pharmacist in dispensing study and non-study products to staff and participants. This role requires someone with a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of the technical aspects of pharmaceutical management. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective distribution of medication while adhering to quality control processes and compliance with relevant regulations.

    Key Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will perform the following duties:

    1. Liaising with Stakeholders: Engage with various stakeholders to ensure smooth coordination and communication in relation to pharmaceutical services.
    2. Knowledge Application: Utilize expertise in HIV/Aids and TB care to support pharmaceutical functions.
    3. Stock Control: Maintain and manage pharmacy stock, including study and non-study products.
    4. Ordering and Receiving Products: Place orders for medication and receive stock as needed.
    5. Recordkeeping: Ensure accurate recordkeeping of all pharmaceutical transactions and processes.
    6. Labeling, Packing, and Dispensing: Properly label, pack, and dispense medication in accordance with the relevant guidelines.
    7. Quality Control: Conduct quality control processes to maintain high standards in pharmaceutical services.

    Requirements

    Education:

    • Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant Qualification as prescribed by Section 33 of the Pharmacy Act.
    • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Assistant.
    • Clinical or research experience in TB/HIV care is advantageous.

    Additional Requirements:

    • South African citizen or valid work permit to work in South Africa.
    • Intermediate computer skills.
    • Valid driver’s license and own car.
    • Willingness to travel up to 30% by land or air, if required.
    • Flexibility to work overtime when necessary.

    Advantageous Qualifications and Skills

    Candidates with a GCP (Good Clinical Practice) certificate will have an added advantage. A strong foundation in TB/HIV care will be beneficial, as the role involves supporting research and clinical activities related to these health conditions.
