Job Description and Key Responsibilities
The Pharmacist Assistant will play an integral role in supporting the pharmacy department under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. This role demands attention to detail, good communication skills, and a strong ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Reading and Preparation of Prescriptions
The assistant will handle the selection, manipulation, or compounding of medicine, ensuring correct labelling and supply in appropriate containers.
- Providing Instructions to Patients
Clear instructions on the correct use of medicine will be given to patients and other healthcare professionals.
- Stock Management and Control
The role involves assisting with the distribution and control of pharmacy stock, including scheduling of medicine deliveries and maintaining stock in line with legal requirements.
- Medicine Preparation and Compounding
Assisting in compounding medicine and preparing non-sterile substances as per hospital protocols.
- Prescription Dispensing and Management
Dispensing prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist and ensuring all stock is maintained in order, including regular stocktaking, re-ordering, and managing ethical stock control systems.
