    Requirements

    To qualify for these exciting positions, candidates should meet the following requirements:

    1. Hold a BSc Degree in Occupational Therapy.
    2. Be currently registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Independent Practice Occupational Therapist.
    3. Have successfully completed one year of community service.
    4. Possess experience in Mental Health (an added advantage).

    Duties

    As an Occupational Therapist, your responsibilities will include:

    • Providing optimal and evidence-based Occupational Therapy individual and group treatment to in-patients and out-patients in the field of Psychiatry.
    • Administering standardized and clinical assessments to patients requiring Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCEs) and other clinical reports.
    • Facilitating the referral process for in-patients, including down referrals.
    • Offering essential supervision for undergraduate students, pupils, community service personnel, and other clinical and non-clinical staff.
    • Mentoring and training community service therapists and students.
    • Assisting with unit management of Occupational Therapy psychiatric services.
    • Managing departmental administrative functions, including data compilation, stock management, and meeting coordination.
    • Preparing for internal and external audits within the hospital and department.
    • Administering Performance Management and Development System (PMDS) evaluations for junior staff.
    • Implementing the department’s policy on training and continuous professional development.
    • Ensuring that departmental standards align with the Ideal Hospital Framework for effective patient service delivery.
    • Demonstrating a strong understanding of current health and public service legislation, regulations, and policies.
    • Applying sound knowledge of clinical theory, practice, and ethics in the Mental Health sector.
    • Collaborating effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and adapting to a changing environment, even under pressure.

    Your interpersonal skills, involvement in ward rounds and meetings, and ability to work under pressure are essential in delivering outstanding patient care.
