Key Details of the Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner Position
Purpose of the Job
The appointed candidate will be part of a 14-member professional nursing team in Sasol’s Occupational Health Department. Reporting directly to the Medical Surveillance Manager, this role focuses on conducting comprehensive medical surveillance programs. The team operates on a straight shift schedule:
- Monday – Thursday: 07:00 – 16:00
- Friday: 07:00 – 13:00
The core responsibilities include conducting screening tests, issuing results, performing quality checks, and collaborating with the Occupational Health Medical Practitioner (OHMP) and related health departments. Strong interpersonal skills, conflict management capabilities, and professional ethics are essential attributes for success in this role.
Primary Responsibilities
- Executing planned medical surveillance programs, including physical assessments, clinical examinations, and biological monitoring.
- Promoting worker health and safety while ensuring excellent patient care.
- Delivering a high-quality surveillance program by optimizing available resources and collaborating with the Medical Surveillance (MS) team and stakeholders.
- Conducting clinical assessments in line with established directives and adhering to legal documentation practices.
- Maintaining effective professional relationships with stakeholders through appropriate workplace conduct.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Matric Certificate.
- Degree in Occupational Health Nursing, with registration as an Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner through the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
- Certifications in:
- Audiometry
- Spirometry
Professional Experience
- 6-7 years of nursing experience, with a significant portion (4-6 years) within occupational health settings.

- Health Risk Assessment (HRA) and Health Impact Assessment (HIA).
- SHE (Safety, Health, and Environment) culture and professional training.
