The National Credit Regulator (NCR) was established under the National Credit Act 34 of 2005 and is responsible for regulating the South African credit industry. The NCR’s responsibilities include:

  • Education: Conducting workshops and campaigns to educate consumers about their rights and responsibilities in the credit market.
  • Research: Undertaking studies to understand the credit market dynamics and identify areas needing intervention.
  • Policy Development: Formulating policies to ensure a fair and transparent credit market.
  • Registration of Industry Participants: Ensuring that all credit providers, credit bureaux, alternative dispute resolution agents, payment distribution agents, and debt counsellors are registered.
  • Investigation of Complaints: Addressing complaints from consumers about credit practices and taking necessary actions.
  • Enforcement of the Act: Ensuring compliance with the National Credit Act by all industry participants.

Requirements

To qualify for the NCR Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an unemployed South African citizen aged between 18 and 35 years.
  • Possess a relevant 3-year tertiary qualification in the fields mentioned above.
  • Have no prior participation in any internship programme.
  • No work experience is required.

Knowledge and Skills

Successful candidates should have:

  • Basic knowledge of MS Office.
  • Good communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Planning and organizing skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, multitask, and work well under pressure.
