In a bold response to the global shortage of healthcare workers, Mediclinic and ER24 have announced a bursary programme for South African students. This initiative aims to empower the next generation of healthcare professionals by assisting with study fees for selected medical-related courses. The bursary is open for external applicants and is currently accepting applications until 31 July 2025.
Addressing a Critical Skills Shortage
The healthcare sector globally—and in South Africa in particular—has faced increasing challenges due to the lack of qualified professionals. Recognising this, Mediclinic and ER24 are stepping up to invest in education for the public good. Their bursary initiative focuses on three essential fields: Nursing, Pharmacy, and Emergency Medical Care.
These areas are considered high priority due to their direct impact on patient care and community health outcomes. The aim is to strengthen the country’s healthcare system from the ground up by nurturing passionate, skilled individuals.
Who Can Apply?
The bursary is aimed at both new and current students. The following documentation is required from applicants:
- Grade 11 or 12 results for students entering their first year of study (results must qualify for entry into a Bachelor’s programme)
- Academic results to date for those already studying
- Proof of registration or acceptance at a recognised institution offering the relevant programme
Applicants must be committed to pursuing a career in healthcare and should demonstrate a strong academic background.
Financial Need and Employment Equity Considered
Financial status plays a key role in the selection process. Candidates must clearly show why they need financial assistance. This bursary aims to assist those who would otherwise not be able to afford tertiary education in these fields.
Additionally, in line with Mediclinic Southern Africa’s Employment Equity Plan, preference will be given to candidates from historically disadvantaged backgrounds. Internal employees of Mediclinic who meet the criteria are also encouraged to apply, ensuring opportunities for growth within the organisation.
What Does the Bursary Cover?
The bursary is intended to cover part or all of the tuition fees related to the student’s healthcare studies. It is not a general bursary for any study field—it is strictly for qualifications in:
- Nursing
- Pharmacist
- Emergency Medical Care
This focused approach ensures that the support goes where it’s needed most—into critical health services that have a direct impact on people’s lives.
Building South Africa’s Healthcare Future
Through this bursary, Mediclinic and ER24 are investing in more than just education—they’re investing in the future of public health. By reducing financial barriers and promoting diversity in healthcare professions, the organisations are playing a vital role in nation-building.
Applicants who succeed will not only benefit financially but will also join a network of healthcare professionals supported by one of the country’s leading private medical institutions.
How to Apply
To apply for the bursary, candidates must include the following in their application:
- Certified Grade 11/12 results or latest academic transcript
- Proof of acceptance or registration at a relevant institution
- Motivation letter (including financial need and career goals)
- Employment Equity status documentation (if applicable)
Use the reference number: 59565 when submitting your application. The bursary falls under the Corporate Office in South Africa, with recruiter Ronell Morrick overseeing the process.
A Chance to Change Lives—Including Your Own
This bursary represents more than just money for school fees—it’s an opportunity to pursue a meaningful career and make a lasting impact in communities. Mediclinic and ER24’s commitment to upliftment and excellence means selected students will be equipped to become leaders in their fields.
Applications are open now, but the deadline is fast approaching. Submit your application by 31 July 2025 to be considered for this life-changing opportunity.
