Requirements for the Medical Specialist Role
To excel in this role, candidates should meet the following requirements:
- Possess an appropriate medical qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a specialist in Diagnostic Radiology. (MBChB; FCRad (Diag) SA).
- Hold current registration with HPCSA as a Diagnostic Radiologist.
Duties
As a Medical Specialist Radiologist, you will play a pivotal role in patient care, teaching, and research. Your duties will include:
- Interviewing, investigating, diagnosing, and overseeing the treatment of patients while managing administrative responsibilities.
- Active participation in teaching and research activities within the discipline.
- Engaging in departmental audit activities.
- Preparing and writing reports.
- Providing liaison and communication services to the community.
- Ensuring reasonable patient throughput on daily lists.
- Demonstrating competency in plain film, fluoroscopy, sonar, CT, MRI, and Mammography.
- Experience in Intervention will be valued.
- Supervising junior doctors, including registrars, undergraduate students, interns, and community service doctors.
- Mandatory commuted overtime.
- Attending relevant administrative meetings such as multi-disciplinary team meetings and near-miss meetings.
- Timely completion of MEDICO Legal Documents, including death certificates.
- Improving the quality of care by delivering appropriate clinical care.
- Reducing medical litigation by adhering to good clinical ethics.
- Implementing and monitoring adherence to National Core Standards.
- Performing practical procedures relevant to patient care.
- Actively participating in departmental meetings, journal clubs, case presentations, and lectures.
- Ensuring accurate administration and record-keeping within the department.
- Providing after-hours (night, weekend, and public holiday) duties to ensure continuous patient care.
- Rotating between Helen Joseph Hospital and Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital.
- Joint appointment with the University, requiring registrar and undergraduate teaching and research supervision.
