    These positions are pivotal in ensuring the efficient marking and assessment of student work in the GET band, which covers levels 1 to 4. The markers will work alongside lecturers and other academic staff to ensure that all assessments are completed accurately and on time.

    Key Performance Areas and Core Functions

    1. Professional Studies and School Based

    Markers in this category must have a strong understanding of Professional Studies and School Based learning in the General Education and Training (GET) phase, specifically focusing on teaching practice and how it aligns with theoretical and practical modules within the curriculum.

    Core responsibilities:

    • Assess student performance in Professional Studies and School Based subjects.
    • Provide constructive feedback to help improve teaching methods in schools.
    • Apply the latest teaching practices and align them with the MRTEQ (Minimum Requirements for Teacher Education Qualifications) guidelines.
    • Ensure the accuracy of grading in line with the subject’s requirements.

    2. Mathematics for Intermediate Phase and Science & Technology

    In this role, markers will focus on the marking and assessment of student work related to Mathematics and Science & Technology, subjects that are critical for the intermediate phase (Grade 4 to Grade 6).

    Core responsibilities:

    • Assess student submissions for both Mathematics and Science & Technology.
    • Work with faculty members to ensure grading is consistent with university standards.
    • Help students improve their understanding of the subjects through feedback and support.
    • Contribute to the development of assessment strategies that enhance student learning.

    3. Life Skills and Social Sciences

    Markers for this category must have a thorough understanding of Life Skills and Social Sciences for the Intermediate Phase. They will be tasked with marking assignments and providing feedback on student performance in these key subjects.

    Core responsibilities:

    • Mark assignments related to Life Skills and Social Sciences.
    • Provide clear, constructive feedback on students’ strengths and areas for improvement.
    • Ensure that all grading aligns with the educational standards set by TUT and the Department of Primary Education.
    • Collaborate with the faculty to enhance the overall quality of education.

    Desired Qualifications and Experience

    1. Professional Studies and School Based

    • Academic Qualifications: A Master of Education (MEd) degree.
    • Teaching Qualification: A formal teaching qualification in Foundation Phase/Junior Primary Education (such as a Bachelor of Education degree, Junior Primary Teacher’s Diploma, or equivalent).
    • Experience: At least three years of teaching experience at a tertiary institution within the GET band. Additionally, candidates should have specialized experience in Professional Studies and School Based learning, with at least two years of experience in the GET Phase. Previous marking experience at the tertiary education level is advantageous.

    2. Mathematics for Intermediate Phase and Science & Technology

    • Academic Qualifications: A Master of Education (MEd) degree.
    • Teaching Qualification: A formal teaching qualification in Intermediate or Senior Phase (such as a Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent).
    • Experience: At least three years of teaching experience in the GET band. Prior experience in teaching Mathematics or Science & Technology in the Intermediate Phase at a university or school environment is beneficial. Marking experience at a tertiary institution is also an added advantage.

    3. Life Skills and Social Sciences

    • Academic Qualifications: A Master of Education (MEd) degree.
    • Teaching Qualification: A formal teaching qualification in Intermediate or Senior Phase (such as a Bachelor of Education degree, Senior Primary Teacher’s Diploma, or equivalent).
    • Experience: A minimum of three years of teaching experience in the GET band. Experience in teaching Life Skills and Social Sciences at the university level is essential, with prior school teaching experience being an added advantage. Previous marking experience at a tertiary institution is also beneficial.
