Position: Law Researcher

Salary Range: R424,104 – R508,692 per annum (Level 09)
Contract Type: The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance agreement.
Location: Middelburg High Court
Requirements:
- Educational Qualification: Must possess an appropriate Bachelor’s Degree (NQF 8) in LLB or a four-year legal qualification recognized by SAQA.
- Experience: At least two (2) years of legal experience post-qualification is required. A minimum of three (3) years of legal research experience and completed legal articles will be an advantage.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with Electronic Information Resources and online retrieval systems such as Westlaw, LexisNexis, Jutastat.
- Skills and Competencies:

- Computer literacy, especially in MS Word.

Duties:
- Conduct comprehensive legal research to assist Judges in preparing judgments.
- Retrieve relevant material in both hard and electronic formats on legal issues as requested by a Judge.
- Analyze material thoroughly and discuss potential legal point variations with colleagues or the Judge.
- Prepare comprehensive memorandums on research outcomes.
- Proofread judgments, articles, speeches, and conference papers for spelling and grammar accuracy.
- Double-check references and footnotes against original texts for correctness.
- Draft speeches, legal articles, and conference papers on legal issues as requested by a Judge.
- Prepare PowerPoint presentations.
- Perform quasi-judicial functions.
- Monitor and inform the judiciary of new developments in law and jurisprudence.
- Undertake any court-related work requested to improve court efficiency.
