    Requirements

    To be considered for this opportunity, candidates should meet the following requirements:

    1. An appropriate medical qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) with Independent Practice.
    2. Candidates with FCP Part 1, ACLS, AMLS, Diploma in HIV Management, or Diploma in Internal Medicine will have an added advantage.

    Duties of the Medical Officer

    As a Medical Officer in Internal Medicine, you will play a pivotal role in the clinical management of general medical patients within one of the General Medicine Units at Helen Joseph Hospital. Your responsibilities will include:

    • Collaborating with registrars and consultants on a daily basis.
    • Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures aligned with a medical officer’s training.
    • Managing patients at MOPD (Medical Outpatient Department).
    • Overseeing patients attending the Subspecialty OPD or Speciality Ward Consultations within a relevant sub-speciality.
    • Setting an exemplary example of a medical practitioner and serving as a role model and clinical mentor to junior doctors and associated clinical staff.
    • Participating in academic activities within the Department of Internal Medicine and related Departments/Sub-Specialties.
    • Teaching and supervising medical students while on call.
    • Prioritizing a patient-first mentality, demonstrating excellent communication skills, exercising good professional judgment, and upholding integrity and professional dependability.
    • Mandatory overtime is a part of this role.
