Requirements
To be considered for this opportunity, candidates should meet the following requirements:
- An appropriate medical qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) with Independent Practice.
- Candidates with FCP Part 1, ACLS, AMLS, Diploma in HIV Management, or Diploma in Internal Medicine will have an added advantage.
Duties of the Medical Officer
As a Medical Officer in Internal Medicine, you will play a pivotal role in the clinical management of general medical patients within one of the General Medicine Units at Helen Joseph Hospital. Your responsibilities will include:
- Collaborating with registrars and consultants on a daily basis.
- Performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures aligned with a medical officer’s training.
- Managing patients at MOPD (Medical Outpatient Department).
- Overseeing patients attending the Subspecialty OPD or Speciality Ward Consultations within a relevant sub-speciality.
- Setting an exemplary example of a medical practitioner and serving as a role model and clinical mentor to junior doctors and associated clinical staff.
- Participating in academic activities within the Department of Internal Medicine and related Departments/Sub-Specialties.
- Teaching and supervising medical students while on call.
- Prioritizing a patient-first mentality, demonstrating excellent communication skills, exercising good professional judgment, and upholding integrity and professional dependability.
- Mandatory overtime is a part of this role.
