    Purpose of the Role

    The General Worker position is primarily responsible for performing physical and operational tasks as assigned by supervisors.     Key Responsibilities

    As a General Worker in the Technical Services Flow Laboratory, you will be required to perform the following duties:

    1. Laboratory Maintenance

    • Ensure that the Flow Laboratory is clean, organized, and safe for daily operations.
    • Dispose of waste appropriately and keep the environment hazard-free.
    • Support laboratory staff with maintaining a hygienic workspace.

    2. Equipment Cleaning and Handling

    • Assist in cleaning and preparing laboratory testing equipment before and after use.
    • Support the Verification Officer by handling both small and large test rigs.
    • Ensure that meters and measuring tools are properly maintained and stored correctly.

    3. Stock Management and Inventory

    • Participate in monthly stock-taking activities, ensuring accurate records of meters and laboratory tools.
    • Assist in keeping an updated inventory list of essential laboratory materials.

    4. On-Site Assistance

    • Support Verification Officers during fieldwork where necessary.
    • Help in the removal and transportation of water testing equipment for external calibration.

    5. Equipment Checks and Preventative Maintenance

    • Perform intermediate checks on verification equipment as required.
    • Assist in operating overhead cranes when needed for laboratory procedures.
    • Participate in preventative maintenance activities and report faulty equipment to the Technical Operations Manager or Supervisor.

    6. Safety Compliance and Operational Support

    • Adhere to all safety procedures in line with Johannesburg Water policies and the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act.
