    Job Purpose:

    As an Information Specialist Intern, you will be responsible for assisting the Librarian in performing routine clerical duties that ensure the library operates smoothly. Your role is vital in maintaining an environment that fosters academic excellence and student support.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assist in the management of the circulation desk, including issuing, renewing, and returning book loans.
    • Handle daily operations related to newspapers, such as scanning and clipping articles.
    • Manage and maintain journals.
    • Perform daily shelf reading to ensure books are organized and properly shelved.
    • Ensure that all library equipment, such as computers, printers, and copiers, are functional.
    • Update notice boards regularly.
    • Prepare and mount library displays.
    • Assist students with computer usage and online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) searches.
    • Ensure the library environment is neat, organized, and professional at all times.
    • Provide clerical support to the Librarian, including photocopying handouts, assisting during workshops, and updating subject guides and database worksheets.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Librarian.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science (NQF Level 7).
    • Understanding of the South African higher education systems and regulatory framework.
    • Excellent time management and attention to detail.
    • Strong customer service orientation.
    • Ability to adapt to change and work well under pressure.
    • Team-oriented with effective communication skills.
    • Preference will be given to EE and South African candidates in alignment with Rosebank College’s equal opportunities policy.
