The HCI Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of its 2025 Bursary Programme. Dedicated and ambitious students are invited to apply for this esteemed opportunity to receive financial support for their educational pursuits.

    The HCI Foundation Bursary aims to assist talented individuals in achieving their academic goals and succeeding in their chosen fields. Through this programme, candidates can access financial aid and enhance their personal and professional development.

    HCI Foundation Bursary Programme Eligibility Criteria:

    • Citizenship: South African citizens, refugees, and asylum seekers.
    • Current Recipients: Existing HCI Foundation bursary holders continuing their undergraduate studies in 2025 at a public university or university of technology in South Africa.
    • New Applicants:
      • Students entering Honours or Postgraduate Diploma programs at listed institutions.
      • Gross family income must be below R38,000 per month.
      • Must be 35 years old or younger as of 30 September 2024.
    • Exclusions: Part-time students, distance learning students, and students at Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges are not eligible.

    • University of Pretoria
    • University of the Witwatersrand
    • University of Johannesburg

    • Note: No hardcopy forms available; the form cannot be downloaded. Applicants can start, stop, save, and continue their application online.

    Required Documents:

    • Working email address
    • Working cell phone number
    • Student number (for returning students)
    • Proof of exact monthly income of parents/guardians (bank statements are not accepted):
      • If a parent is deceased, provide a death certificate.
      • If living with a single parent, provide an affidavit stating single parent status.
      • If a parent is unemployed, provide an affidavit confirming unemployment.

    Application Period:

    • Open: 01 August 2024
    • Close: 30 September 2024

    Bursary Coverage:

    • Amount: Covers 75% of tuition fees, up to R40,000 per annum.
    • Exclusions: No coverage for living expenses, books, residence, meals, or transport (except in exceptional cases).
    • Repeat Studies: Not funded for repeat years or modules.

    Payment Details:

    • Timing: Payments are made around July each year.
    • Method: Directly into the student’s fee account at their institution.

    Bursary Conditions:

    • Repayment: Bursaries are generally non-repayable unless:
      • Failure due to lack of commitment without prior notification.
      • Intentional non-participation in bursary programme activities.
      • Provision of false/inaccurate information.
    • Expectations: Recipients are expected to engage in community projects, attend workshops, and complete surveys.

    Other Funding and Support:

    • Existing Funding: Eligibility for the HCI Foundation bursary is possible with other loans or partial bursaries, but will be withdrawn if a full-cost or significantly large partial bursary is received elsewhere.
    • Master’s/Doctoral Studies: Not covered. Funding is limited to Honours and Postgraduate Diploma studies.
    • Internships/Employment: Bursary recipients may participate in the Graduate Development Programme but opportunities are not guaranteed. To be considered, send a CV and motivational letter to bp@hcifoundation.co.za.
