The Market Theatre Foundation (MTF) is re-advertising a Graphic Designer vacancy for talented professionals who are ready to take their design skills to the next level. Join the dynamic Marketing and Communications team and contribute to the visual identity of one of South Africa’s leading cultural institutions.
As the Graphic Designer, you will work closely with various departments to produce creative and engaging visual content. Your work will help drive MTF’s marketing and branding efforts through the design of posters, banners, digital media (social media, website assets), annual reports, brochures, and more. You’ll also have the opportunity to develop and maintain the MTF’s corporate identity (CI) while ensuring all visuals align with both the MTF’s and individual business units’ branding.

Desired Experience & Qualifications
- A formal qualification in graphic design is required.
- Additional qualifications in communication, art direction, or arts management are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in graphic design or art direction.
- Proficiency with MAC systems and the Adobe Creative Suite.
- Competency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience working in both corporate and artistic/creative industries is preferred.
- Experience in visual and artistic mediums would be an asset.
Key Responsibilities
- Create compelling posters, banners, and web-based assets for productions, events, programmes, and courses.
- Develop marketing materials that advertise MTF’s activities and items, ensuring consistency with MTF’s corporate identity.
- Ensure all designs align with the specific branding requirements of MTF’s departments and business units.
- Work closely with stakeholders to understand design requirements, developing concepts that meet both the brief and marketing goals.
- Ensure designs remain relevant to contemporary audiences, while staying true to the project or event.
- Translate abstract ideas into practical, visually appealing designs that can be used across various media platforms, from digital to print.
- Stay informed about current and emerging design trends, incorporating them into the creative process to keep MTF’s visual communication fresh and modern.
- Occasionally assist in directing photoshoots to ensure visual materials are aligned with the marketing objectives.
- Produce designs that reflect current trends while remaining true to the essence of MTF’s projects and overall identity.
- Constantly aim to create visual designs that challenge the status quo and set new trends within the cultural and creative sector.
- Provide partners with MTF’s corporate identity guidelines and ensure their designs complement the institution’s brand.
- Review and assess partner designs to ensure they align with MTF’s visual identity.
- Handle all aspects of printing marketing materials, from obtaining quotes to ensuring print-ready files are accurate and high quality.
- Ensure final printed assets meet MTF’s standards and are distributed appropriately.#
