About the Gibela Bursary Program
Gibela’s bursary program for the 2024 academic year covers a wide range of fields at different educational levels. The program is open to students pursuing studies at TVET Colleges, Universities, and University of Technology. The fields covered include but are not limited to:
TVET College:
- Boiler-makers
- Control and instrumentation technicians
- Electricians
- Fitters and Turners
- Mechanics
- Millwrights
- Pattern-makers
- Plumbers
- Vehicle-builders
- Welders
University and University of Technology:
- Accounting
- Computer Science
- Electrical Engineering
- Electronic Engineering
- Industrial Engineering
- Information Technology
- Logistics Management
- Mechanical Engineering
- Metallurgical Engineering
- Supply Chain
Expenses Covered, Renewal & Selection:
The Gibela bursary provides comprehensive coverage for selected students. For TVET students, it covers full tuition fees and a book allowance, while University and University of Technology students receive coverage for full tuition fees, book allowance, accommodation, and meals. Bursaries are granted annually, renewable based on satisfactory academic performance.
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria to be considered for the Gibela Bursary:
TVET students:
- South African citizenship
- Matric completion
- Minimum level 4 results in Mathematics, Science, and English in Matric
- Acceptance or intention to study in a relevant field at a recognized TVET institution
- Strong academic record and financial need
University and University of Technology students:
- South African citizenship
- Matric completion
- Minimum level 6 results in Mathematics, Physical Science, and Accounting in Matric
- Minimum level 5 result in English in Matric
- Acceptance or intention to study in a relevant field at a recognized University or University of Technology
- Strong academic record and financial need
Current 1st and 2nd-year students are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply:
Prospective students meeting the eligibility criteria can apply by submitting the required supporting documentation via email or fax. The closing date for applications is 2nd February 2024. No applications will be accepted after this date.

- South African ID document (certified copy)
- Full academic record (certified copies)
- Short Curriculum Vitae
- Motivational Letter
- Parents or guardians proof of income (latest payslips if employed/ affidavit if unemployed or informally employed/ proof of grant or pension if applicable) (certified copy)
- Proof of acceptance for admission from a TVET institution in South Africa (on institutions letterhead)
Note: there is no application form to be completed for this bursary application – students need only submit the list of above documents to apply.
