Eligibility Requirements
The Midvaal Local Municipality is looking for individuals who meet the following criteria:
- Educational Background:
- A minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent (Firefighter 1 & 2, Hazmat Awareness, and Operations certifications are acceptable substitutes). Higher qualifications equivalent to Matric or NQF Level 3 are also recognized.
- First Aid Skills:
- Applicants must possess at least a First Aid Level 3 certificate or have completed a Basic Ambulance Course.
- Driver’s License:
- A Code C Driver’s License is essential for this role.
- Physical Fitness:
- Candidates must be medically and physically fit to perform operational duties.
- Must possess the ability to swim and should be free from phobias such as claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces) and acrophobia (fear of heights).
- Personal Attributes:
- The role requires a hardworking and self-disciplined individual with a strong work ethic.
- Prior experience or basic knowledge in fire and rescue services will be advantageous.
- Three months of previous internship experience is a plus, although not mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will undertake a wide range of responsibilities, under the supervision of experienced Station Officers and other senior personnel, to gain well-rounded skills in firefighting and rescue services:
- Daily Tasks:
- Respond to and execute daily assignments provided by the Station Officer, maintaining punctuality and accountability.
- Equipment Maintenance:
- Interns will assist in testing and checking all firefighting vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are in optimal condition.
- They will also help with cleaning and upkeep of equipment and vehicles and report any malfunctions to the duty officer.
- Firefighting and Rescue Operations:
- Assist senior personnel in responding to fire incidents and perform duties as per command on scenes.
- Participate in combating grass, wildland, and structural fires, contributing to property protection efforts.
- Control Room and Administrative Tasks:
- Interns may be assigned control room duties as required, in addition to other tasks delegated by their superiors.
