    Finance Clerk Role Responsibilities

    1. Clerk: Revenue (6-month contract)

    This role focuses on maintaining accurate financial records related to daily revenue. Key responsibilities include:

    • Daily reconciliations: Perform daily cash and card transaction reconciliations, investigating and addressing discrepancies with banks, cash-in-transit companies, and third-party providers.
    • Monthly journals: Prepare and post monthly buy aid commission and sales journals.
    • Audits: Confirm store banking status with internal audit and provide accurate documentation to external auditors.
    • General ledger: Conduct revenue general ledger reconciliations, analyzing root causes of any variances and taking corrective actions where necessary.
    • Record-keeping: Maintain business documentation and electronic files in compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) regulations.
    • Accruals: Post accrual journals according to accounting system requirements.
    • Trend analysis: Identify and analyze trends in cash and card reconciliation discrepancies, summarizing findings for review by management.

    2. Clerk: Overhead Creditors (5-month contract)

    As a clerk handling overhead creditors, you will manage the processing and payment of supplier invoices. This includes:

    • VAT Compliance: Ensure that supplier invoices meet VAT requirements and facilitate the release of purchase orders for payments.
    • Supplier invoices: Report and follow up on outstanding invoices or accruals based on agreed specifications and deadlines.
    • Reconciliations: Maintain a checklist of supplier reconciliations, ensuring all completed reconciliations match the supplier due requirements report.
    • Payments: Ensure timely payments according to agreed supplier terms and cashflow requirements.
    • Aging reports: Review the supplier aging reports and follow up on overdue items, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
    • Customer support: Respond to customer queries and provide excellent service, reflecting the company’s vision and mission.
    • Team support: Provide backup support for colleagues during absences and assist with additional tasks as required.

    Essential Experience and Qualifications

    Experience Required:

    • 1-2 years’ finance administration experience with a strong focus on reconciliation.
    • Preferred experience in the retail industry is an advantage but not mandatory.

    Qualifications Required:

    • Essential: A Grade 12 certificate with a focus on Accounting and Mathematics.
    • Preferred: A relevant Finance Diploma or Certificate.

    Knowledge and Skills

    Ackermans is looking for candidates who are equipped with essential knowledge and skills that will allow them to excel in these roles.

    Knowledge Required:

    • Financial reconciliations and balancing sales from point-of-sale systems in stores.
    • Understanding of basic accounting principles such as debits, credits, journals, and reconciliations.
    • A solid grasp of financial administration processes.

    Skills Required:

    • SAP software proficiency (required for Clerk: Overhead Creditors).
    • MS Office 365 and intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
    • The ability to work both independently and within a team.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Above-average numerical ability.
    • Ability to work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
    • Capable of handling large volumes of work with accuracy.
