Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality has announced an exciting opportunity for youth graduates to apply for internship positions through the Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP). This initiative is in partnership with the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE).     Internship Program Overview

    The EPWP Youth Graduate Work Opportunities provide 50 positions for youth to gain practical experience in environmental studies. These positions are spread across various roles that focus on environmental education, climate change awareness, conservation efforts, and promoting sustainable practices. The program has a duration of four months, providing participants with a daily stipend of R247.50.

    Who Can Apply?

    The internship is open to youth between the ages of 18 and 35 years, as well as people living with disabilities. To be eligible, applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements:

    • M+3 Qualification: This means that applicants must have a Matric certificate (Grade 12) plus three years of study, resulting in a qualification with at least 360 credits or a diploma at NQF Level 6.
    • Youth aged between 18 and 35 are encouraged to apply.
    • Required Documents: All applicants must submit an application letter, curriculum vitae (CV), and a copy of their qualifications.

    The program encourages applications from individuals with degrees or qualifications in environmental fields such as biodiversity, forestry, tourism, air quality, and conservation.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    The program includes various positions, each with its own set of responsibilities that contribute to advancing environmental awareness and sustainability efforts. The key positions available are as follows:

    Environmental Awareness Campaigners (7 positions)

    These ambassadors will focus on environmental education, promoting sustainable practices, and encouraging behavioral changes within communities. They will work on raising awareness about the importance of environmental conservation.

    Climate Change Ambassadors (7 positions)

    This role focuses on climate change education and advocacy for climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies. Ambassadors will be expected to educate communities on the effects of climate change and ways to combat it.

    Biodiversity and Conservation Monitors (7 positions)

    Monitors in this position will conduct field surveys, including fauna and flora identification and habitat assessments. They will also collect and analyze data related to biodiversity and conservation efforts, assisting with habitat restoration projects.

    Air Quality Ambassadors (7 positions)

    The air quality ambassadors will be responsible for collecting and analyzing air quality data. They will also participate in public awareness campaigns to educate the public about the importance of air quality in environmental health.

    Environmental Policy Developers (7 positions)

    This role involves supporting the development and implementation of environmental policies. These individuals will work alongside experts to influence positive changes through policy recommendations and implementation.

    Ecotourism Ambassadors (15 positions)

    This important position will focus on promoting responsible travel to areas that conserve the environment and improve the well-being of local communities. Ecotourism ambassadors will research and identify sustainable tourism practices, as well as assess the environmental impact of tourism activities.
