Job Purpose
The appointed Engineering Technologist will be responsible for the protection, maintenance, and improvement of proclaimed provincial roads throughout the Garden Route and Central Karoo districts. This includes providing technical advice and support to operational teams in the field, applying engineering techniques to address challenges, and ensuring the safety and functionality of the road network.
Minimum Requirements
- Educational Qualification: Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) in Civil Engineering or a relevant qualification
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience as an Engineering Technologist
- Professional Registration: Compulsory registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as an Engineering Technologist
- Driver’s License: A valid Code B driving license
Recommendation: Working experience in physical road maintenance and construction is advantageous
Key Performance Areas
- Plan and execute maintenance activities by in-house personnel for the provincial road network within the Oudtshoorn DRE
- Facilitate coordination and physical protection of the proclaimed provincial network
- Support engineers, technicians, and associates in the field
- Promote safety standards in line with statutory and regulatory requirements
- Perform administrative and related functions, including providing inputs to the operational plan
- Engage in research and development activities
- Procure maintenance materials as needed
- Monitor flood damage repair and maintenance activities on roads
- Ensure quality assurance of technical designs with specifications and authorize/make recommendations for approval by the relevant authority
