The Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture (DSRAC) has announced an exciting employment opportunity through its EPWP Programme. This initiative, focusing on youth development and employment, opens the door for 111 posts across various districts in the province.
It offers individuals a chance to gain meaningful work experience while supporting community development projects.
EPWP Programme Key Details
The EPWP positions will run from April 2025 to March 2026 under a one-year fixed-term contract. The programme is intended to support unemployed youth aged 18 to 35 years who are eager to work in community development while enhancing their professional and personal growth.
Stipend
Participants will receive a monthly stipend of R3,500, which will support their basic needs while they gain valuable experience. It is important to note that no additional benefits are provided beyond this stipend, and successful candidates will need to manage their own transportation and accommodation costs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Participants in the EPWP Programme will be responsible for various activities designed to enhance their local communities. Some of the key duties include:
- Facilitating Departmental Programmes:
Assisting in the planning and execution of departmental projects at the ward level, ensuring that programmes run smoothly and meet their objectives. - Implementing Community-Based Activities:
Engaging in sports, arts, heritage, and cultural activities at schools, libraries, museums, and community art centers. - Mobilizing Youth Participation:
Encouraging schools and youth groups to actively participate in cultural, sports, and recreational programmes. This includes organizing events and activities that inspire community involvement. - Building Relationships with Stakeholders:
Maintaining strong relationships with local community organizations and other partners to ensure collaborative efforts for successful programme implementation. - Promoting Social Development:
Helping to create platforms for youth engagement in arts and sports, thereby promoting inclusivity and fostering a sense of community.
Eligibility and Requirements
The EPWP Programme has specific eligibility criteria to ensure that participants are well-suited for the roles. The requirements are as follows:
- Educational Qualifications:
Applicants must have a National Senior Certificate (Matric) or an NQF Level 4 qualification or equivalent. - Unemployment Status:
Candidates must be presently unemployed and able to commit to the programme’s one-year term. - Residence Proximity:
Applicants must live within a 5km radius of a service center (such as a library, museum, or art center) to ensure accessibility to work sites. - Age Range:
The programme is open to individuals aged 18 to 35 years. - Skills and Knowledge:
Basic communication and organizational skills are required, along with an understanding of community arts and culture structures. Coordination and stakeholder management abilities are also highly valued. - Willingness to Learn:
Successful candidates must be prepared to undergo training as part of the programme.
