Job Description
Dis-Chem is looking for motivated individuals to train as basic pharmacist assistants under professional supervision. The role focuses on providing practical experience while ensuring high-quality pharmaceutical services.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will perform the following duties under the direct supervision of a pharmacist:
- Selling Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances as per pharmacy regulations.
- Assisting in the preparation of non-sterile medicines, following approved formulas and guidelines.
- Managing stock, including unpacking, merchandising, and maintaining proper storage conditions.
- Maintaining cleanliness and organization in the dispensary and OTC shelves.
- Learning to accurately interpret prescriptions and act within legal pharmaceutical guidelines.
- Helping with picking, packing, labeling, and checking medications for accuracy.
- Ensuring all medications are verified by a pharmacist before dispensing.
- Monitoring stock levels and reporting on low or out-of-stock medicines.
- Engaging with patients regarding prescriptions, follow-ups, and call center inquiries.
- Providing health-related information to customers.
- Assisting with chronic medication, HIV/AIDS, and oncology treatment authorizations.
- Receiving dispensary stock in accordance with Dis-Chem’s standard operating procedures.
Minimum Requirements
Candidates must meet the following criteria to qualify for this opportunity:
- Grade 12 (Matric) with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science.
- Successful completion of a proficiency test to apply for SAPC registration as a learner basic assistant.
- South African citizenship.
- Clear criminal and credit record.
- Strong communication skills (English and a second language).
Preferred Competencies and Skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Good problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills.
- Strong customer service orientation.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Basic computer literacy (numerical and administrative skills).
- Knowledge of retail pharmacy operations, Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting is advantageous.
- Prior experience in Dis-Chem front shop retail or complementary medicine is beneficial.
