     Pharmacist Internships Description

    The Dis-Chem Pharmacist Internships aim to equip interns with a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of the pharmaceutical environment. The program focuses on:

    Duties and Responsibilities

    As a Pharmacist Intern, you will:

    • Perform services or acts related to the scope of practice of a pharmacist’s assistant under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist.
    • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines.
    • Help in the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile or sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs.
    • Support the manufacturing and re-packaging of medicines.
    • Manage the distribution and control of stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 6 medicines.
    • Assist with ordering medicines as per the Medicines Act.
    • Read and prepare prescriptions, label medicines, and supply them in appropriate containers following pharmacist evaluation.
    • Provide patients with instructions regarding the correct use of medicines.
    • Offer health promotion information to individuals.
    • Capture prescription details accurately and verify patient details on the system.
    • Ensure the accuracy of medication picking, packing, and labeling.
    • Stay updated on changes in medical aid procedures and claims requirements.
    • Check the accuracy of prescriptions and obtain pharmacist verification.
    • Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication counter, and front shop.
    • Follow up with patients regarding script tracking.
    • Explain medical aid costs to patients.
    • Process paperwork for medical aid claims and correct errors on rejected scripts.
    • Ensure authorization of chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medication.
    • Maintain customer profiles and handle messages appropriately.
    • Report low/out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
    • Participate in scheduled stock takes and exercise stock control.
    • Maintain housekeeping standards according to Dis-Chem guidelines.
    • Adhere to Dis-Chem policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
    • Wear the Dis-Chem uniform and comply with the personal appearance policy.
