Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform financial transaction processing within the bursary administration and payroll domain under supervision to ensure accurate recording and compliance with policies, processes, guidelines, and legislation.
  • Aid in the processing of monthly allowances for bursars and study fees upon receipt of invoices from academic institutions to ensure timely payments aligned with award letters.
  • Support the processing of bursary payments upon approval of Workflow requests and preparation of bursary agreements between the CSIR and employees before fund transfers to academic institutions.
  • Prepare and execute monthly transactions, adhering to legislation, CSIR policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure accurate accounting of transactions based on valid supporting documents for supervisor review.
  • Assist in preparing monthly reconciliations of relevant study/bursary/payroll control and suspense accounts to identify long outstanding transactions for corrective action.
  • Address outstanding stakeholder queries (internal and external) or escalate to the Management Accountant for resolution.
  • Maintain records of all pertinent documents in accordance with the CSIR document retention policy and legislative requirements for accessibility.
  • Adhere to month-end and year-end processes as per the established plan to ensure timely completion of transactions, processes, and reports.

Minimum Requirements

  • Possession of a three-year Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Strong comprehension and implementation capability regarding fundamental accounting principles.
  • Fundamental proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Adequate understanding of pertinent legislation, including the Income Tax Act and the VAT Act.
  • Capacity to maintain focus on details, handle pressure, and manage stress effectively.
