Compliance Assistant Job Description
The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that Hogan Lovells complies with all Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations by conducting continuous monitoring on the firm’s existing clients. You will work closely with various teams to ensure that all Compliance Due Diligence (CDD) policies and procedures are followed and that the firm’s standards are upheld.
Key Responsibilities
As a Compliance Assistant at Hogan Lovells, your responsibilities will include:
- Client Research and Analysis:
- Conducting in-depth research from public sources, including company registries, stock exchanges, financial and legal regulatory websites, and external databases.
- Liaising with legal staff, support staff, and research teams to collect any outstanding CDD information.
- Engaging directly with clients, if necessary, to fulfill CDD requirements.
- Conducting risk rating reviews on clients based on research findings, including adverse press and ongoing investigations, and determining whether risk levels should be adjusted.
- Reports and Database Management:
- Reviewing and updating CDD information for existing clients.
- Documenting all evidence gathered during the CDD process in a clear and concise manner.
- Ensuring that all changes to client information are updated on the firm’s database and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
- Advisory and Project Participation:
- Providing guidance to partners, fee earners, and support staff regarding compliance legislation and the firm’s AML/CDD policy.
- Participating in administrative projects under the supervision of senior Compliance Officers, particularly related to ongoing monitoring.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- Education:
- Grade 12 or equivalent (NQF 4) – Required
- BCom, LLB, or BA equivalent (at least in the final year of studies) (NQF 7/8) – Required
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a Compliance or AML role at an operational level – Required
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a legal or shared services environment at an operational level – Required
- Minimum of 6 months of experience using databases at an operational level – Recommended
- Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Intermediate level)
- Strong organizational, administrative, and time management skills
- Commercial awareness and an ability to handle queries with diplomacy and tact
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
